Introducing the Accord Card

Pioneered by Aberdeen City Council, the Accord card is a multi-functional smartcard scheme, which delivers both services and concessions, creating a citizen's card of real value, which can be implemented by all types of businesses.

The Accord Scheme has delivered in excess of 60,000 smartcards and rising; to secondary school students and senior citizens in Aberdeen.

The Accord scheme is a way by which services are provided by Aberdeen City Council.

The Accord card uses smart card technology to securely carry a number of different products and services within a single microchip embedded in the card. Each Accord card is personalised to contain only the products the cardholder wishes to hold in it (and is entitled to). All the information held within the microchip of the Accord card is maintained securely, with an electronic barrier partitioning one service from another. This means that a service provider will only be able to look at the relevant section of the microchip within each card in order to provide their service to the cardholder.

The Accord Card also has the capability to carry money in the form of an 'electronic purse'. This means that money can be loaded and stored securely on the card until the cardholder wishes to spend it. Locations for load and spend of the electronic purse will become available through out Aberdeen. (See 'Uses of the Card' for further information)
