About Us

The Accord Card, Aberdeen City Council's smartcard, not only provides concessionary Travel to anyone aged 60 and over and many disabled people, it also gives secondary school pupils access to Cashless Catering at all of Aberdeen City Council's secondary schools and can be used as your library membership card across all of the City's libraries.

Whether you are 18 and want to buy a drink at a pub or you are 15 and want to buy tickets at a cinema, you may find the Accord Card useful as Proof of Age without having to carry your passport or driving licence around. Sport Aberdeen members will appreciate the Accord Card as their Sport Aberdeen Membership card and many young people already make good use of the Young Scot information portal. Depending on your circumstances, you may also qualify for Access to Leisure. That could be anything from FREE swimming to DISCOUNTS on sporting and leisure activities to HALF PRICE childcare! Visit the Access to Leisure to find out more.

What's more, the Accord Card is FREE and Aberdeen City residents can also get up to 50% discount on many things from leisure, sport to audio visual lending at libraries across the City.

New Meal Ordering and Payment System at Coronation Court

MyChoiceImage

The council has completed an extensive review of sheltered and very sheltered housing (The Very Sheltered Housing Review 2015) and one of the key findings of the review is the requirement for a fairer and more consistent approach to meal provision at all very sheltered housing.

MyChoice is a new meal order and payment system which delivers a fairer and more consistent approach to meal provision at all of the council's very sheltered housing developments. This new system replaces the current paper menu with an online system which allows tenants to pre-order and pay for their preferred menu choices. The system means that each tenant has a meal ordering 'account' which is linked to their Accord Card. Meals will be ordered in advance for the week ahead and tenants will use their Accord Card to access their 'account' and place their order. To find our more about MyChoice visit the MyChoice website.

We have created a MyChoice video that provides more information on how the new system works.

Introduction of the Primary School Meal System at Walker Road Primary School

Aberdeen City Council's Catering Service is about to introduce a new Primary School Meal System to Walker Road Primary School. The system, which has been developed by the Accord Card team and replaces the current paper meal tickets, works with 'electronic accounts'. Each pupil has their own Kidz Card with their name and individual card number. The card is used in the classroom to order lunch. Having an account also means that you can top-up your child's account online and we send you a weekly alert to let you know your child's balance. You can also opt into further alerts by visiting the Sign Up For Balance Alerts website.

We created a Primary School Meal System video for you and your child that explains how the system works.

If your child is a pupil at Walker Road Primary School you have/or will shortly receive a letter and leaflet with more details on the new system. If you have any questions regarding the new system at Walker Road Primary School contact us on 01224 346834 or email us at accordhelp@accordaberdeen.co.uk.

Free school meals for all Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils

The Scottish Government has decided that from January 2015 all primary one to primary three pupils will have the option to take a free school meal every day. The information below intends to give parents/carers details on how Aberdeen City Council will provide free school meals to all primary one to primary three pupils at its primary schools.

How does my child receive free school meals?

Airyhall Primary School and Tullos Primary School

Since both schools already use the new Primary School Meal system, your child can simply chose a meal every day and no charge is made for it from your child's account. This will continue until the end of primary three. From primary four onwards you will need to ensure that your child's account is being topped up online. Any money remaining in your child's account at the end of December 2014 can remain in the account until your child is in primary four. If you would prefer a refund of the existing please email the Accord Office with your child's name and the 16 digit Kidz Card number. We will also remove balance alerts for your child's account ensuring that you will not receive any balance alerts until primary four.

All other Primary Schools

At all other primary schools in Aberdeen City, plastic cards will replace the current paper tickets for pupils in primary one to primary three. If your child would like to take a free school meal, s/he will be issued with a plastic card in the classroom and this card can be exchanged for a free school meal in the dining room.

If you have been left with surplus paper tickets at the end of December 2014, you can request a refund by writing to:

Facilities Team

Aberdeen City Council

Business Hub 10, 2nd Floor South

Marischal College

Broad Street

Aberdeen

AB10 1AB

With your letter will need to enclose the lunch tickets you would like a refund for as well as including the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your child's name and the name of your child's school
  • The number of tickets you wish to request a refund for
  • Your bank account number and sort code (this is the approved method of processing refunds)
  • An e-mail address for return remittance advice

Alternatively, you can keep the surplus tickets safe until the new Primary School Meal System is in place at your child's school. View the Primary School Meal System video for a short introduction to the new system. We will let you know when the new Primary School Meal System is coming to your child's school. Once the new Primary School Meal System is in place at your child's school we will credit the value of any remaining tickets to your child's school meal account. Alternatively, if you would like a refund please write to:

If you have any questions regarding free school meals for primary one to primary three pupils please contact the Facilities Team on 01224 522232.
