As your child is moving up to secondary school s/he will need an Accord Card to pay for meals and snacks. The Accord Card, which works similar to a bank account, is used at all of the councils secondary schools and allows your child to pay for meals in the school canteen and at vending machines.
You shortly will receive a letter with information on how to apply for your child's Accord Card. Please do complete the Accord Card application for your child as soon as possible to ensure that the card is ready at your child's secondary school on induction day. New Meal Ordering & Payment System at Coronation Court
The council has completed an extensive review of sheltered and very sheltered housing (The Very Sheltered Housing Review 2015) and one of the key findings of the review is the requirement for a fairer and more consistent approach to meal provision at all very sheltered housing.
MyChoice is a new meal order and payment system which delivers a fairer and more consistent approach to meal provision at all of the council's very sheltered housing developments. This new system replaces the current paper menu with an online system which allows tenants to pre-order and pay for their preferred menu choices. The system means that each tenant has a meal ordering 'account' which is linked to their Accord Card. Meals will be ordered in advance for the week ahead and tenants will use their Accord Card to access their 'account' and place their order. To find our more about MyChoice visit the MyChoice website.
We have created a MyChoice video that provides more information on how the new system works.
Free school meals for all Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils
The Scottish Government has decided that from January 2015 all primary one to primary three pupils will have the option to take a free school meal every day. The information below intends to give parents/carers details on how Aberdeen City Council will provide free school meals to all primary one to primary three pupils at its primary schools.
How does my child receive free school meals?
Airyhall Primary School and Tullos Primary School
Since both schools already use the new Primary School Meal system, your child can simply chose a meal every day and no charge is made for it from your child's account. This will continue until the end of primary three. From primary four onwards you will need to ensure that your child's account is being topped up online. Any money remaining in your child's account at the end of December 2014 can remain in the account until your child is in primary four. If you would prefer a refund of the existing please email the Accord Office with your child's name and the 16 digit Kidz Card number. We will also remove balance alerts for your child's account ensuring that you will not receive any balance alerts until primary four.
All other Primary Schools
At all other primary schools in Aberdeen City, plastic cards will replace the current paper tickets for pupils in primary one to primary three. If your child would like to take a free school meal, s/he will be issued with a plastic card in the classroom and this card can be exchanged for a free school meal in the dining room.
If you have been left with surplus paper tickets at the end of December 2014, you can request a refund by writing to:
Aberdeen City Council
Business Hub 10, 2nd Floor South
With your letter will need to enclose the lunch tickets you would like a refund for as well as including the following information:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your child's name and the name of your child's school
- The number of tickets you wish to request a refund for
- Your bank account number and sort code (this is the approved method of processing refunds)
- An e-mail address for return remittance advice
Alternatively, you can keep the surplus tickets safe until the new Primary School Meal System is in place at your child's school. View the Primary School Meal Video video for a short introduction to the new system. We will let you know when the new Primary School Meal System is coming to your child's school. Once the new Primary School Meal System is in place at your child's school we will credit the value of any remaining tickets to your child's school meal account. Alternatively, if you would like a refund please write to:
If you have any questions regarding free school meals for primary one to primary three pupils please contact the Facilities Team on 01224 522232.
